Cairo of Yesteryear by Grace Goodwin
2018 Cairo Bear #12
Sponsored by: Catskill Mountain Honey
Description: I designed the bear with my love of old post cards of my home town of Cairo…Postcard on Center chest County Farm, Right Leg: Cairo School, Left Leg Cairo Railroad, Back of Bear Center WWI Memorial Fountain, Right side: Shinglekill Falls, Left side: Woodstock Dam. This was my first bear, but I have painted and have done art work all my life. Currently my medium is cake! But I love my home town, and want it to flourish as it did in my youth. My hope is that this bear project helps to revitalize Cairo.
Each post card has a special meaning to me, the County Farm has a beautiful view of the mountains that I saw every day of my life in Cairo, The Railroad used to be located next to my home in Cairo on currently Fiero Dr, the Cairo school post card doesn’t really have an airplane in it, but the Cairo school had an airfield behind it where my Dad used to fly with local pilot Ernie Lemke. The WWI fountain, I have fond memories of my Dad and Mom placing flowers on Memorial Day during the parade. Shinglekill falls and the Woodstock Dam summer swim memories.
